TV Links shut down

without comments

The increasingly popular (and quite handy) tv-links.co.uk website has been shut down and the one man has been arrested in connection to the web site by police yesterday.

The move brought about by FACT (the Federation Against Copyright Theft) is of particular interest as the site did not host any of the videos, merely providing the user links to sites which did host the content.

Is the message that it’s less criminal to host illegal content on YouTube than it is to to link to it from a site such as TV Links?

Which begs the question, if they’re heading down this route (which I suppose could be seen as the ‘distribution’ layer), how long before they take on the likes of Google for providing links to, and indeed hosting content on their YouTube service.

Jack Schofield from the Guardian has more comment on the whole situation.
